What is LiFi?

LiFi, short for Light Fidelity, is a technology that enables wireless internet access through light. It utilizes light waves, typically employing LED technology, to transmit and receive data wirelessly. This means that data can be sent and received using light waves. LiFi offers the potential for secure internet connections.

How does LiFi work?

Internet via light may sound like a lamp with internet, but in LiFi, light serves a different purpose. The flickering signals used to transmit data are so rapid that they are imperceptible to humans. However, LED lighting can serve as the transmitter for LiFi. Additional equipment is required to receive LiFi signals.

To use LiFi, several components are necessary: a transmitter, a receiver, and an internet connection. The transmitter is linked to the internet source and can be centrally mounted on the ceiling to broadcast LiFi. This enables the transmission of LiFi. The receiver can be connected to the device intended to receive LiFi signals. Unlike humans, the receiver can perceive the flickering signals from the transmitter.

The operation of LiFiMAX FLEX

Our LiFiMAX® FLEX kit consists of  an access point, photonic antenna and a receiver: the dongle. The access point  connects to the internet (modem/fiber optics) via the familiar PoE cable (Power over Ethernet). The dongle is easily connected to your PC, laptop, tablet, phone, or other devices. The antenna emits data using light waves, which are received by the dongle, creating a bilateral wireless internet connection.
